International Seminar on "The Protection of Cultural Heritage in the Perspective of National and International Laws", Jambi, October 28-29, 2014


Introduction

THE FACULTY of Law, Jambi University, Indonesia, will host an international seminar on "The Protection of Cultural Heritage in the Perspective of National and International Laws" on 28-29 October 2014. The seminar will be a forum where Indonesian, Malaysian and Thailand national laws as well as various international instruments of law on the legal protection of cultural heritage will be discussed.

The seminar is aimed not only to explore knowledge, or to learn from, and enrich one another on the subject, but also to enhance mutual understanding and mutual respect of the three neighboring countries that will meet in the seminar. Therefore, closer collaboration between the countries is needed rather than conflict and tension. The seminar will bring together academicians, practinioners, government officials, cultural activists and observers and scientists to meet together, exchange ideas and discuss emerging and critical issues on legal protection of the cultural heritage either from national or international perspectives.



Speakers and Topics

The seminar will be attended from speakers of Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. They are:

1. Prof. Prasit Aekaputra, dean of the Faculty of Law, Huachiew Chalermprakiet University (HCU), will discuss the protection of cultural heritage in international law.

2. Prof. MadyaNuarrual Hilal Md Dahlan, lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Universiti Utara Malaysia, will discuss the protection of cultural heritage in Malaysian law.

3. Prof. Narong Jaiharn, dean of the Faculty of Law, Thammasat University, will discuss the protection of cultural heritage in Thailand law.

4. Prof. Agus Sardjono, lecturer of the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia, will discuss the protection of cultural heritage in Indonesian law.

5. Selected call for papers on the related theme.


Call for Papers

The seminar provides call for papers. Therefore, we invite speakers to address any aspects of the seminar theme. Abstract of 250-300 words must be submitted prior to the paper no later than 8 October 2014. Early submission is recomended. The paper should cover 10-20 pages with 1,5 space. Both abstract and paper must be written in English.


Registration Fees and Facilities

The seminar registration fees are as follows:

1. Participant: IDR 500.000
2. Call for paper: IDR 500.000
3. International participant: US$ 50.

Registration fees must be paid no later than 20 October 2014 and transfered to:

The seminar registration fees include seminar proceedings book, technical admission to all sessions, sertificate, meals and refreshment and tour to Muarajambi Temple.

22 September-8 October 2014 abstract submission of call for papers.

10 October 2014 notification of acceptance.
15-25 October 2014 final paper and fee submission.
22 September-25 October 2014 registration and confirmation of attendance.
27 October 2014 participant check-in.
28 October 2014 seminar at Aston Hotel Jambi.
29 October 2014 tour to Muarajambi Temple and Jambi University.
