Pengamat yang pertama kali membuat laporan tentang wastra Jambi adalah B.M.
Goslings. Sejak 1927 hingga 1931, secara berturut-turut Goslings
mempublikasikan serial artikelnya tentang batik Jambi dalam berkala Nederlandsch-Indie
Oud en Nieuw. Menarik untuk menelusuri siapa sebenarnya Goslings dan mengapa ia tertarik meneliti
